Winter Wedding Session

Winter Wedding Session by Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter

I hosted my LAST Kentucky retreat this week. When I originally planned it I wasn’t going to have a shoot for us to do, rather I wanted us to just hang out and learn together while we relaxed. At the last moment I decided to add the shoot as a surprise and thankfully Jenny and her husband, Jon, were available. We froze a little, jumped around a lot, and had a great time getting to know one another.

It is also so refreshing to watch other people direct and shoot. That’s one of my favorite parts of hosting these retreats, is to watch the people who come shoot. None of us do things the “right” or “wrong” way when it comes to posing or shooting. We’re all just doing our own thing, learning and vibing as we go. For the most part I like to step back during the live shoots at my retreats, at least for a moment, and see how every one does things. I remind them that I’m there if they need help and encouragement but I want to see what they’re capable of.

Dana only brought a polaroid camera so I had her do ALL of her digital images on her cell phone (iphone X). The photos she got are SO creative and I love how she stepped out of her comfort zone to do this.

Autumn was a master at directing and coming up with creative ideas. I loved seeing her express herself and her photography. She came up with some really amazing concepts and executed them perfectly.

Honestly, this retreat is making me a little sad to be leaving Kentucky, but I’m glad that I was able to have one last event here before I go. The support I’ve gotten from my fellow Kentuckians over the years has helped mold me and grow me into the photographer I am.

P.S. I edited this set with Jupiters Storm from the new Galaxy Collection I released a couple of weeks ago.
