The Wedding Workshop by Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter
On Tuesday I taught my first workshop and it was a bit terrifying and amazing all at the same time. I’m an extremely introverted person (82% according to the Meyers Briggs test) so it’s really hard for me to get over nerves to talk to a group of people. But I feel like the need for someone to actually sit down and teach people things in the area outweighed how uncomfortable it made me. I didn’t charge a lot, mostly enough to pay for the venue, food, and styled shoot. It’s not about making money for me at the moment, and I think that’s how I want to ultimately keep it.
I really hope that the wonderful humans that came were able to learn something from me, and that I’m able to continue sharing things with other photographers. I’m not a “famous” photographer, but I feel like I’ve been doing this long enough that I can help others that are struggling or new photographers get started. I love going to workshops and conferences myself, not so much because I learn things, but because I love being part of the community, and I hope that the people that came felt that as well.
I also want to thank Warrenwood Manor for letting me host the workshop in their lovely house and on their grounds. Brittany is always amazing and incredibly friendly. If you need a wedding venue I highly recommend it. Also, Brooke with Fields in Bloom made exactly what I wanted with the flowers and then some. She’s definitely a flower wizard.
