Ashley and Brad’s NYE Wedding by Los Angeles Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter
Honestly, I wasn’t even going to shoot a NYE wedding in 2017. I’ve done them for the past 4 years, and I was really planning on spending New Years Eve with friends and family. That is, until Ashley emailed me. I couldn’t turn them down. They sounded like the perfect couple, and their venue is one of my favorites in Kentucky. Berry Mansion is such a beautiful venue, and it has so many nice little nooks for photos. Not to mention it’s the perfect place for a more intimate setting.
The wedding itself was absolutely wonderful, and I am so happy that I was able to be there. The morning of the wedding, however, is the perfect example of why you should always have back up gear. I was loading my bag and formatting cards before I left, and noticed that one of my cameras wouldn’t let me insert a CF card. One of the prongs had gotten bent somehow and it was unusable. The SD slot in that camera was also having issues and turning off every time a card was in it. My roommate is an angel and ran out to the only open camera shop and purchased a new camera for me and then drove it an hour to the wedding so that I could have two cameras on me. Obviously, I’ll be adding a third body, but if I didn’t already shoot with two cameras, I would have been screwed.
So photographers, if you aren’t shooting with two bodies already, PLEASE DO YOUR CLIENTS AND YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET ANOTHER. Things can and will happen, even if you are experienced. Do not leave it up to chance, and don’t ruin someones wedding over something that is easily preventable.
