Shelby and Kevin’s Woodsy Louisville Engagement Session by Seattle Wedding Photographer Brandi Potter
I’ve known Shelby for quite some time. When I was a sophomore in high school she and her sisters transferred to my school. I cheered with her that year and we’ve followed each other on social media since we’ve been adults. It’s definitely wild realizing that we’re old enough to get married and have careers after going through all of that dumb high school stuff together.
I asked Shelby and Kevin during the shoot how long they had been together now and she replied, “It’ll be seven years when we get married. You know everyone says after awhile you grow out of the honeymoon phase and that’s just not love if that happens.” I had never even thought of that, and that phrase is completely stuck in my head now. I want all of the people I work with to feel this way about the person they’re with. If its not this type of love, what is even the point?
And it’s so crazy that I can sympathize with that statement so much, given all the men I’ve dated and all the failed relationships because the honeymoon phase didn’t last. I’m seeing how that phrase is reflected on my life, and I know that if I do ever get married, that I won’t settle for anything less now. So I challenge all of you couples to keep your relationship fresh and exciting and never just settle to be with someone. Strive for this type of love, because you deserve it.
